Dairy Farmers of Britain has been fined after a ride-on pallet truck collided with a forklift at Boultham Park Dairy in Lincoln.
The incident happened in June 2008, between the main fridge and production areas. The driver of the pallet truck, John Reader, suffered multiple fractures to his lower right leg.
The HSE investigation discovered that traffic routes at the site were not organised so that vehicles and pedestrians could move about safely. Though not a factor in the accident, the HSE also found that floor surfaces were wet and slippery almost constantly, and some areas were damaged.
Dairy Farmers, of Nantwich in Cheshire, admitted failing to ensure traffic routes and floors were fit for purpose and that pedestrians and vehicles could circulate safely, contrary to Regulations 12(1) and 17(1) of the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations.
On 24 June Lincoln magistrates fined the company £10,000 with £2916 costs.
