A Spanish union is suing a bakery in Valencia for allegedly throwing the severed arm of an employee in the bin following a work accident then resuming production.
Franns Rilles, an illegal migrant worker from Bolivia, had his arm amputated on 28 May in an incident involving a kneading machine at Rovira bakery in the eastern Valencia region.
According to the union Workers Commissions, as Rilles was taken to hospital, his employer threw his arm in the bin, cleaned the machinery and then carried on with production.
The police found the arm the next day, said the union, but it was too late for doctors to save it.
The union added that Rilles had worked at the bakery for two years but hadn't been properly trained to use the kneading machinery. He earned around £19 a day.
